Five Racecations to Take

Happy Friday! Today’s Friday Five theme is a fun one – travel. My co-hosts Mar and Courtney and I thought a theme of “Five Trips” would be really fun to write and to read. If you blog, link up with us at the bottom but be sure to follow the linkup rules. I decided to focus on racecations since I’m a lover of the racecation and so I went with “Five Racecations to Take”.

But first, don’t miss my awesome giveaway of a SKINS Compression outfit going on now! Another giveaway will be posted soon (as soon since it’s my Blogiversary Giveaway fest this month!

So for my list of Five Racecations to Take, I have running and triathlon in the list – pick your poison.

1. ZOOMA. Last year’s ZOOMA Annapolis is one of my favorite racecation memories. I got to have a girls weekend with some awesome ladies, and run a race in a gorgeous setting. All the ZOOMA races are designed with the racecation in mind in scenic locations like Annapolis, Napa, Florida, Cape Cod, and now Colorado and Nashville have been added to the list. I’m a ZOOMA Annapolis Ambassador because I love the race and the series.

Oh hey – it’s the Friday Five co-hosts at the ZOOMA Expo last year!

(And of course don’t forget you can use my ZOOMA Annapolis discount code: CYNTHIA15.)

2. Any runDisney Race. You have to be a Disney lover for this one, or game to try it once as a bucket list thing. My husband grew up in the Orlando area and worked at Disney, so it doesn’t have the same appeal to him as it does to many of us. But I had such a blast at the Glass Slipper Challenge weekend in 2014 and hope to try another Disney race in the future. I just can’t afford to do it every year.

Here’s an article I wrote for RunHaven called Is Running Disney Worth the Money – you be the judge on whether it’s for you!

3. Any race in New York City. Running a race through NYC is an incredible experience. I really want to do the NYC half marathon and/or full marathon some day, and last year did the NYC Triathlon. Running through Central Park at the end of the tri was pretty incredible. Swimming in the Hudson was a life-changing experience. And of course raising money for the Ronald McDonald House NY was the most meaningful part of the racecation, and I hope to race for that cause in NYC again soon.

This year I have Rock n Roll Brooklyn on my race calendar, so it will be an interesting twist to running in NYC. I’m hoping to make a kid-free trip out of it with my husband, since it’s our 15th anniversary that week.

(Don’t forget you can use YOUSIGNEDUP for a Rock n Roll discount code.)

4. Pick a distance, pick a destination, and make a racecation. I used to love those Choose-Your-Own adventure books when I was younger and really you can make a racecation that suits you by just finding a smaller, local race in a place that sounds nice to you.

Last year on this exact weekend, I took a racecation. It wasn’t for a giant race series, it was for a small local race out at the beach area called the Seashore Classic Half Marathon. I had a fabulous time and loved the small race atmosphere in a scenic location. So much so that I registered for the Rehoboth Beach Marathon this December the day they opened and offered a discounted rate.

5. Challenge Florida. Um… I have a big announcement. I added a race to my race calendar. You knew I would.

In actuality, I’ve been working out my Big Fall Goal – yes, it’s capitalized since it was a Big Thing for a while and it’s been causing me some angst. One of my main goals this year was to stay local to MD/DC/VA/DE, but with a few fun racecations popped into the mix. So my fall end-of-season triathlon goal? Racecation.

I’m so excited to announce that I’ll be doing Challenge Florida half iron distance race in Venice, Florida on November 8. I had my eye on this race but it was listed as being on my dad’s 70th birthday, so it was a no-go. Well, the date changed and I’m a yes-go!

I used to live in Florida and it’s where I decided that someday I wanted to do a triathlon, but then I got pregnant and moved away, and the rest is history. So this is going to be really exciting to me – and also a bit anxiety-inducing, as I’ve never shipped my bike before and flown for a triathlon. I’m used to piling all my gear into the trunk of a car – I’ve driven 8 hours to Georgia, and I’ve taken a bus to NYC with my bike, but this will be more of a triathlon racecation than ever before.

The awesome news for you if you’re a triathlete (or want to be)? A Challenge Family Americas race series discount code. Just email me or message me on social media for a discount code – and not just for the Florida race, there are racecation destination races in the Challenge Family series all over like the Poconos. Maine, Atlantic City, and more – the event listing is here.

I’ve mentioned that I’ll have specific goals for the Events DC Nation’s Triathlon – I’m doing the Olympic distance and then it will give me 8 weeks until Challenge Florida to get ready for the half ironman distance. I am already dreaming about doing a triathlon in Florida!
